Watch this video above before reading. The Boston Bruins have been known to have one of the most loyal fanbases in all of hockey. Not only with hockey but all their sports (Celtics, Red Socks, Patriots). This commercial was made before the 2018 Stanley cup playoffs and intrigued me in 2 different ways. One with how quiet that church was and I am at fault like this man of watching hockey during church, another is being a ‘fan’ no matter where you are or what you're doing.
This was 100% a convection of mine being distracted by what I want to do. I’ve recently learned instead of asking what did a person do wrong, I start asking myself what did I do wrong? It's an honest question in everyday life and my walk of faith. It’s hard to do the right thing and easy to do the wrong thing. But God called us to be doers of the word, Otherwise your just fooling yourself (James 1:22). We need to find a way to stay active and find good in everything we do. Hebrews 12:2 says, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” We have to focus our hearts desires and pain set on Jesus alone, one translation rephrased ‘the pioneer and perfecter of faith’ the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
Now to being a fan. You know when it's Sunday when the football jersey comes out, including in church. You can notice them maybe from miles away from a gathering screaming at a television emotionally for their teams. They have neon style jerseys now that make fans glow. You find this in the bible with Jesus' teachings in Matthew 5. Starting at verse 14 and ending at 16,
“You are the light of the world- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so everyone will praise your heavenly father.”
This means we are on God's team to shine his light in us to show him glory. Kinda sounds like a player in a post game interview giving credit to his teammates. God wants us to be loud and proud about what Jesus has done in our lives and most of the time, you don't have to wear a jersey, a cross or a wwjd bracelet to attract eyes, but your actions following his teaching can do the trick. The next video is based on a true story of woodlawn and Hank Erwin rewrites the events of the cotton bowl crusade.
This story moves so many people back then and even today. The one light can truy shine through the darkness, It just takes vision to see it and accept that light that Jesus Christ gave to us in our hearts.
